Tasting - Chateau Massiac Minervois

Name: Chateau Massiac Minervois

Variety: Syrah and Carignan

Region: Minervois

Country: France

Year: 2008

Price: $17.95

Winery Review: Chateau Massiac's red wine is a blend of 75% Syrah and 25% Carignan.  The vines are grown in rocky clay-limestone soil, a geologic composition common to the estate.  It s dark in color and rich when young, when dominant flavors of blackcurrant.  These primary fruit aromas give way to herb/garrigue characteristics as the wine opens.

My Review:  I felt that this was a very smooth wine.  It did not have a very sweet taste, but was very good.  It did not smell very good at all.  I am not sure how to describe the smell, but it was not pleasant.
